Niall is an Agricultural Inspector in the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine having joined them in 2001 after eight years working in both the private and public sectors. He initially worked in the Agri-environment and Structures Division Organic Unit for seven years and then worked on the implementation and design of various Agri-Environmental Schemes. In November 2016 he moved to Crop Evaluation & Certification Division where he was responsible for the implementation of the National Crop Evaluation Programme for grasses and clovers as well as Plant Breeders Rights duties. In March 2019 he moved to the Nitrates and Biodiversity Division and his main responsibilities focus on Biodiversity policy  and  EIA (agriculture) Regulations.
